Build a Popcorn Box!
We like to eat popcorn at our house in the evening. Did you ever think about making a box to hold your popcorn? How can you make a box to hold the largest amount/volume of popcorn? Today I am going to demonstrate how to make a popcorn box out of a sheet of paper.
Cut squares from the corners of an 8.5"x11" sheet of paper. Fold up the sides, and tape it together. Investigate what size square gives the biggest volume. Find the volume by taking length x width x height.
Example: Cut 1"x1" squares from each corner. The volume would be 9x6.5x1=58.5 cubic inches.
Answer: The maximum volume can be created by cutting out approximately 1.6"x1.6" squares from the corners giving a volume of 66 cubic inches.
